Description
A working desk built around the fact that the dog follows you into the study and then has nowhere to settle. One end of the carcase is opened into a resting chamber, positioned so the animal lies within arm's reach of the chair. The chamber is doorless and open on two faces. The dog enters without negotiating a threshold and keeps a clear line of sight to the desk chair, which is what actually stops the pacing and the door-scratching during long working hours. A slender run of brass rods wraps the outer corner — enough to define the edge of the chamber and protect the veneer return, without closing the volume in. Inside, a removable bolstered pad sits on a raised base with a soft radiused front lip, so the dog can rest its chin over the edge and the pad wipes out as one piece. The base is lifted clear of the floor to keep the sleeping surface out of draught. The desk itself is unaltered in function. A full-depth writing surface with a raised rear lip, three deep drawers on concealed runners with inset steel pulls, and a floating under-shelf with integrated task lighting for papers and cables. Blackened ash end panels ground the pale timber and take the wear at floor level. Chamber width, internal height, opening height, and pad depth are set from your companion's measurements and resting posture; desk height and drawer depths follow your own working dimensions. Timber, metal, and textile are selected against the existing study joinery — the pale pine, blackened ash, and brass shown are one direction rather than a fixed specification. Suited to home offices, studies, libraries, and any working room where the companion currently waits on the floor beside the chair.

START MY BRIEF FROM THIS DIRECTION“We'd tried every standard dog bed and cabinet—nothing survived our golden retriever or matched the room. This is the first piece that looks like it was designed for our house. Our guests don't even realise it's a dog bed—they just ask where we got the furniture.”
