Description

A working kitchen island resolved as a two-animal sleeping structure on one side and full kitchen storage on the other — built for households where two companions follow the cook through the day and end up lying in the circulation. The long face carries two separate chambers, each with its own oak-lined shell, removable linen mattress on a sealed wipe-clean base, and radiused entry scallop at the front edge. Each chamber closes with a sliding screen of turned timber and brass spindles running on a concealed track, so the screens pass in front of the openings without swinging into the kitchen floor. Spindle spacing is set individually to each companion's head width, keeping air and sightlines continuous when closed. Separate chambers matter here: two animals can rest in company without sharing one cavity, and one can be closed while the other stays open. The end bay holds the kitchen's own service. Reeded glass doors with brass hardware enclose adjustable shelves for glassware, cups, and bowls, and a three-drawer bank in geometric parquetry marquetry takes utensils and linen. Above, a figured stone counter with an eased edge runs the full island for preparation and seated dining. Because the sleeping side faces away from the range and toward the room, the animals lie out of the hot working triangle while still watching the kitchen — which is what stops the under-foot pattern rather than moving the beds elsewhere. Chamber widths, internal heights, spindle spacing, mattress depth, and scallop radius are set from each companion's measurements and resting posture; counter height, overhang, and storage layout follow your kitchen. The character oak, figured stone, marquetry, and linen shown are one direction rather than a fixed specification. Suited to open-plan kitchens, farmhouse kitchens, and kitchen-dining rooms in multi-companion households.

“We'd tried every standard dog bed and cabinet—nothing survived our golden retriever or matched the room. This is the first piece that looks like it was designed for our house. Our guests don't even realise it's a dog bed—they just ask where we got the furniture.”
