Description

A full-length dining-room run that puts resting and feeding inside the room's own cabinetry, so the household stops keeping bowls and a bed on the floor of the space where it eats. Toward the centre, an alcove is cut into the carcase as the resting position: lined in cherry on all faces, with a removable linen mattress on a sealed, wipe-clean base and a radiused scallop at the front edge so entry is a step rather than a climb. It closes with an arched timber lattice door on brass pivots — lattice rather than a solid panel so air and sightlines stay continuous, and arched so the opening reads as an architectural recess in the run rather than a crate. The alcove can be left open through dinner and closed when the room is set for guests. Beside it, the glazed bay carries the feeding station: two solid brass bowls recessed flush into a sealed, stone-lined well at the base, with adjustable shelves above for decanters, glassware, and dry food. Recessing the bowls stops them travelling across the floor, contains spills inside a wipeable well, and sets bowl height against the companion's shoulder rather than the floor. Because it sits under a closable door, the feeding position disappears entirely when the room is in formal use. The rest of the run is dining service: a bank of shallow drawers on antique brass ring pulls for linen and flatware, and woven cane panel doors enclosing deep storage at both ends. A honed black marble counter runs the full length as a serving surface, with burl-panelled open shelves above for glassware and preserves. Alcove width, internal height, mattress depth, lattice spacing, bowl diameter, and feeding well height are all set from your companion's measurements and posture; bay widths, counter height, and shelf layout follow the room. The figured cherry, cane, burl, and black marble shown are one direction rather than a fixed specification.

“We'd tried every standard dog bed and cabinet—nothing survived our golden retriever or matched the room. This is the first piece that looks like it was designed for our house. Our guests don't even realise it's a dog bed—they just ask where we got the furniture.”
